Hello all,

It's been a long time since my last post - we're busy preparing to
emigrate to New Zealand - but I still lurk here and on .misc

Last night, we went to the Bengal Classic[1], a local Sylheti-run
restaurant that we haven't treid before. I had a "gosht jaflongi" - a
very nice lamb dish cooked with Shathkora / shatkora, a sour fruit
fruit/vegetable that I haven't knowingly eaten before. Whilst a
mouthful of shatkora was pretty sour and not particularly palatable,
the dish was very flavoursome and, for my tastes, a refreshing change
from the sweeter dishes often found in common or garden curry houses.

If you look at the website, be sure to look at the 360 degree panoramic
view of the restaurant and have a look at the Bengal tiger paiting on
the ceiling. The kids loved it as it has red LED eyes!

I was intrigued by your post and finally tracked down a recipe
for lamb shatkora. However, the recipe did not contain tomato
and someone else enthused about the dish talking about a tomato
sauce flavored with shatkora. Did your dish seem to include
tomato in the sauce?

It was very dark brown so the colour would be no indication but, no, I
don't believe it did

One of my favourite places ... staff are polite, service is quite good;
have dishes they claim are actual Bengali dishes on the menu.

*Love* the food

I didn't know you were local - or perhaps you're not and merely visit
our neck of the woods for food!

I can do shadow animals on the wall with the rotating beacon at Canary
Wharf ...

Time for another visit to some place I think ...

I'm not *a* local, I just live here
